Carl Hubbell, who was a Hall of Fame pitcher for the New York Giants from 1928 to 1943, lived in Haworth from 1946 to 1950, right at the time when Joe Bracchitta said Carl Hubbell had taken him to see Willie Mays playing in Trenton, New Jersey, before going into the service during the Korean War.

During the 1950 season while playing at Trenton for the Minor league Giant team, Willie Mays played in 81 games, had 306 at bats with 108 hits, batting 353, with 20 doubles, 8 triples, and 4 home runs, for a slugging average of 510.
